How To Get Your Proof of Income from oDesk

A couple of months ago, I wrote about applying of a PLDT Home DSL as a freelancer. At first, I didn’t think they’d approve it since I don’t have an ITR or pay slip to show. I was surprised that they accepted the Certificate of Earnings that I got from oDesk. This is really good because now I know that little by little, freelancing is being accepted as a legitimate source of income. (Of course, we all need to register our business eventually. But I will leave that to another post.)

For now, let me show you how to get your proof of income from oDesk should you want to apply for internet, a mobile plan, etc.

STEP 1: Log into oDesk. Click the Reports tab.

STEP 2: You will be redirected to a page where you will find your timesheet. Go to the right side of your screen and click the More Reports option. A drop-down menu will show up. Click on Certificate of Earnings at the very bottom.

STEP 3: Download and print!

Your proof of income from oDesk will look like this. It will have your name, job title, oDesk profile URL, date of membership, and address. Your income for the last twelve, six, three months as well as your previous month’s income will be reflected. Be sure you’re earning enough to prove to them that you can pay your bills, ha! 😀 (Side note: If you’re not earning enough to pay your bills, you better re-evaluate your rate.)

I have only tried applying for a landline and internet plan from PLDT using my proof of income from oDesk. I have yet to try it on other companies. Hopefully, though, others will acknowledge this as proof of income as well.
