With busy work schedules, we do our best to make our weekends with our kids special.
We don’t have to do something extravagant.
Most times, we just stay at home and plan activities like having a barbecue in the backyard or all-day Netflix and chill – like the original plan we had for the weekend of March 4th.
Unfortunately, our plan went down the drain when, out of nowhere, our internet connection went MIA.
To “save” the weekend, we decided to treat the fam to a staycation.
Our usual go-to hotel is Seda Nuvali, which is just a couple of minutes drive from our home.
This usually works out even if we come as walk-in guests, but that weekend, it was fully booked!
Tagaytay was a no-go too with lots of people heading there.
So, we had to search for a backup.
We drove around the Sta. Rosa area and found ourselves in a quiet area in South Forbes.
That’s where we discovered Microtel by Wyndham South Forbes.
What We Liked About Our Stay in Microtel by Wyndham South Forbes
- It’s located farther from the commercial area in Nuvali so it’s very quiet and not crowded at all.
- Although it’s located far from the heart of hustle and bustle of Nuvali, there were still restaurants, a grocery, and shops around.
- The rooms are comfortable with the usual amenities: beds, a television, a refrigerator, a bathroom with bath tub and toilet.
- They also got us connecting rooms so we don’t have to crowd in our room. #bigfamilytravel
- It has an in-house Japanese restaurant. Unfortunately, they don’t do room service – as most hotels during the pandemic.
- It has a kid-friendly swimming pool that our children really enjoyed. Plus points: Because there are less guests, we had the pool all to ourselves.
- The staff are friendly and great with kids.
What Can Be Improved
- Their toiletries can do better. We’re used to hotels that provide a complete set: liquid shampoo and conditioner, liquid soap, lotion, all the things! Microtel only provided shampoo and a bar of soap.
- In-house room service needs to be looked into. We called once to order food and they said they’d call us back to confirm if the restaurant can deliver food to our room. We also called to have someone bring a plug for the bath tub. They never called back both times. We had to go down to the reception to check ourselves.
- One of the reasons why we decided to check in is because it has internet. I was in the middle of taking care of a client’s re-enrollments so I needed to be online to check my emails. Unfortunately, Microtel’s internet connection was wonky. It keeps disconnecting my device after a few minutes so I had to disconnect and reconnect multiple times.
Accommodation Cost
Each room cost us P4,550, which totals to P9,100 for two connecting rooms for a one night stay. What’s included in each room are:
- A room with two double beds
- A television and refrigerator
- Toilet and bath (one room has a bath tub, the other only has a shower) with toiletries
- Plated breakfast
- Access to the hotel’s amenities (wifi, pool, etc)
Final Thoughts
We generally enjoyed our stay in Microtel by Wyndham at South Forbes. We got what we came for: a chill weekend and a good night’s sleep.
However, considering that Microtel’s rates do not fall far from the likes of Seda Nuvali, I hope they can improve their amenities and services more.
