Last week, I – together with members of the Mommy Bloggers Philippines group – had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with the previous year’s winners of Mrs. Philippines-Globe.
Prior to the meet and greet, I have been encouraged by fellow bloggers, friends, and relatives to sign up for this year’s pageant. Some even joked that it will be my chance to continue my pageant career, which began almost two decades ago when my mom signed me up for pageants like Little Miss Cainta and Little Miss Philippines.
I kept refusing, though. One, because I have always been very shy and being on stage scares me to death. And two, because I have had two pregnancies that left me with a CS-scar and nasty stretchmarks. Also, thoughts like, “A beauty pageant is not a married woman’s arena!” and “I’m too fat!” ran through my mind. In short, I wasn’t feeling very confident about myself – at all.
Then, we met the winners of the 2013 Mrs. Philippines-Globe batch. Ruby Jane Lehmann, Mrs. Philippines-Globe 2013, and Jessie Lou Lucero, Solane Mother of the Year winner, sat with us for a chat. They are two women with different but both very inspiring life stories. Ruby has always dreamt of being a beauty queen. She shared with us her journey, which eventually led her to Mrs. Philippines-Globe. Jessie, on the other hand, became a mother at a young age. She talked about losing herself at one point and how Mrs. Philippines-Globe served as her reminder that although she is already a wife and a mother, she also has dreams and aspirations that she should also try to achieve.
Our quick conversation taught me so much about being a woman of substance: a woman that embraces her individuality, a woman who has her own voice and uses it to influence other people (in a good way!), a woman with a dream, and a woman who lives up to her morals and values. My chat with the two wonderful ladies reminded me that life does not stop after marriage and motherhood. There are so many things – numerous opportunities – still waiting to be seized!
This is what Mrs. Philippines-Globe is all about. According to Ms. Morena Carla Cabrera-Quimpo, National Pageant Director of Mrs. Philippines-Globe, their vision for the pageant is for it to be “the premiere beauty pageant of married women in the Philippines.” She also added that the pageant aims to empower and reinvent women in their life and career. Ultimately, they want the pageant to be a reminder for all women that they are worthier than they believe.
This year, 20 candidates will be vying for the Mrs. Philippines-Globe crown. The pageant night will be on May 17, 2014 at the SMX Aura Premiere in Bonifacio Global City. The winning candidate will represent the Philippines in Mrs. Globe 2015 World Finals at Shenzhen, China on November 2014.
On the same night, the winners of Little Miss Solane Teenies and Little Miss Solane Cuties, both of which are children’s beauty pageants that aim to promote the potential, talent, skills, health, education and well-being of children, will be crowned.
