Kimberley Reyes | Mom On Duty

Smooth and bumpy, big eyes and pudgy cheeks

If you noticed, I haven’t been blogging a lot lately. School’s out so I should be relaxing, right? Nope. In fact, I’m feeling more exhausted now than when The Princess had school. Our business is growing and so are the minis. It’s like I have three kids! And you know how it is when you have growing little ones in the house…lots of changes equal lots of chaos.

Surprising as it may be, I find it easier to handle The Little Man than The Princess. I mean, our girl listens when I ask her to stop doing something while her brother would usually taunt until I lose it. But what makes handling our preschooler more challenging is that she has become so curious now. She never runs out of anything to say! It’s not like I don’t want her to be that way–because I do–but it gets exhausting sometimes. Try answering questions at least every 10 minutes and you’ll know what I mean. And she doesn’t always ask simple questions. Sometimes, she’d drop a question like, “Why did daddy have to miss my moving up day to go to work?” How do you tell a 3-year old that duty comes first for a uniformed personnel?

Anyway.

The fun thing about The Princess being this way, though, is that she can drop the most hilarious lines when we least expect it. One night, while we were watching the television and a facial wash commercial came on, she asked me what “kinis” means. She absolutely loves saying the line, “Ayaw kuminis!” every time that commercial comes on. Hehe! Anyway. So she asked me what “kinis” means and I said that in English, it means smooth.

“Smooth and soft like my skin,” The Princess said. “And baby’s. And mommy’s,” she added. Since I know she can be brutally (and hilariously) honest, I asked, “How about daddy’s skin?” Without hesitation she answered: “Daddy’s skin is bumpy!”

Hahaha! I’m sorry, Daddy A, I just had to ask her! Know that I never taught her to say that! In my eyes, you’re the most makinis of them all. Patay na patay kaya ako sa’yo…bumpy skin or not. Haha!

Integrity

Her dad wasn’t the only target of her brutal honesty. While we were doing silly faces, I asked her to show her dad her super big eyes. So she did. Then I asked The Little Man to show his silly face with super big eyes…

“Mommy, he doesn’t need to do it. His eyes are already super big! Just like his cheeks. His cheeks look like my tummy!”

And laughter ensued again. She is quite right, isn’t she? See for yourself…

I think what makes her pasabog lines so funny is that she would state them in a matter-of-fact way.

Although this talkative and curious phase of hers can be tiring, I still look forward to her questions and observations every day. For some reason, it’s exhausting but it’s also my stress reliever. It’s nice to have a good laugh every now and then, too, especially now that I’m going through a rough patch. 🙂
