What ‘happy’ means

What does 'happy' mean to you? | www.momonduty.com

When we were children, we were often asked what we wanted to be when we grow up. When I was asked that question a long time ago, my answer was either to be a doctor to heal people or a diplomat to connect people. I ended up following the path towards the latter, which is why I took up European Studies in Ateneo and even went as far as having my OJT in the Philippines’ Department of Tourism in London.

But now that I have children of my own, I have started to rethink the very same question and what I wanted my children to answer. Do I want them to be lawyers? Perhaps doctors? Oh, what about entering the fire service like their daddy? In the end, however, I realized that all I want them to be when they grow up is to be happy. Whatever path they take, whichever career they choose, all I want for them is to be happy because they are doing what they love.

As for me, happy means being with my family. Right now, I don’t want anything more than spending time with my husband and the minis. Time–it feels like we don’t have an abundance of that at the moment. My husband’s work has become extremely busy and my business is taking up so much of my time. So time with my family is really precious to me.

I will be on a blogging hiatus for a week since I’ll be spending some time with my family and taking a break to give my body time to recover so I’ll leave you with this question: What does ‘happy’ mean to you? Think about it.
